clavis introduces itself: Jan-Martin Lichte

[authorBox image=”http://uzuner-solutions.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/2014-01-30-Jan-Blog.jpg” name=”Jan-Martin Lichte – Geschäftsführer”]As our manager, Jan is the first person to contribute to our series “clavis introduces itself”. His example demonstrates why SAP could also stand for “Sammlung Arbeitsloser Physiker” (collection of unemployed physicists) and how this can turn out to be a story of success.[/authorBox]

From Matter to Code

Even as a student I already wanted to know what holds the world together in its inmost folds. That’s why I decided to study theoretical physics.

However, after getting my degree, I started to have doubts if an abstract academic career was the right thing for me to aim for. What was intended as a short excursion from theory into practice became my profession: I worked as a SAP consultant for almost 20 years and implemented the German standard software in big companies. It was fascinating for me to gain insight into the world of logistical processes and to meet the challenge of translating demands into a technical language – all of this with the purpose to facilitate the daily work for users through software that really works and matches their needs. However, this challenge was not always easy to meet with SAP…

Thus originated the idea of using my knowledge about business processes and my experience with software projects independently of SAP. Software technology has been developing rapidly during the last 10 years: People have become used to the internet and myriads of websites compete for customers with elegant designs and comfortable input masks.
Accordingly, the expectations of the look and feel of business software rise – which is equally true for webshops, business applications and complete ERP systems.

Too old to be content with Play, too young to be without Desire

According to the motto “Software for your Business”, clavis solutions GmbH, the company I founded in 2011, pursues the aim of bringing the best of two worlds together: professional, advanced functionality for the mapping of business processes on the one hand, and on the other hand an aesthetic user interface going beyond the state of the art which the user is already accustomed to.

Within two years of successful work, we have constantly grown together and have become a strong team. Our goal for 2014 is to further professionalize our work and pursue our course of growth.
With the enlargement of our team, my tasks and activities have shifted – from consultant to manager and motivator. My colleagues have been taking over a lot of the project work, whereas I’m responsible for keeping an eye on the “big picture”, i.e. approaches and strategies. Needless to say, I also provide advice and support in the operative project business, but I see myself as a coach rather than an uncompromising decision-maker. After all, the goal is that the project teams take on responsibility and ownership for their work.

Our first successfully completed projects speak for themselves. I’m especially looking forward to our first product in the area of work safety, which will be ready for use in the 2nd quarter. I feel very comfortable with my committed and creative team and I’m looking forward to exciting times!
